Quick Start Guide

Item #606083

This pocket guide serves as a quick reference in calibrating and operating the Pro30
conductivity and temperature instrument. It is not intended to replace the information
found in the User Manual.

Calibration

The Pro30’s temperature sensor cannot be calibrated nor should calibration be
required.  If the temperature sensor is not reading accurately, contact YSI or your local
representative

The Pro30’s conductivity sensor can be calibrated in conductivity, specific conductance
or salinity measurement mode.   Calibrating any option will automatically calibrate the
others. YSI recommends calibrating in specific conductance for both ease and accuracy.
The following steps outline the specific conductance calibration.

1.

Fill a clean container (ie plastic cup or glass beaker) with fresh, traceable
conductivity calibration solution and place the sensor into the solution. The
solution must cover the holes of the conductivity sensor that are closest to the
cable. Ensure the entire conductivity sensor is submerged in the solution or the
instrument will read approximately half the expected value.

2.

Gently agitate the probe to remove any air bubbles from the conductivity
sensor.

3.

Press and hold the

Cal

key for a few seconds. Highlight

Sp. Conductance

 and

press

Enter

.

4.

Highlight the units you wish to calibrate, either

uS/cm

 or

mS/cm

, and press

Enter

. 1 mS = 1,000 uS.

5.

Next, use the up or down arrow key to enter the conductivity value of  the
solution as it is labeled for 25°C. (Specific conductance is temperature
compensated conductivity and the instrument uses the default reference
temperature of 25° when calibrating specific conductance.) Depressing either
the up or down arrow key for 5 seconds will move the changing digit one place
to the left. The Pro30 will remember the calibration value and display it the next
time a calibration is performed.

6.

Press

Enter

 to confirm the calibration value.

7.

Wait for the readings to stabilize and then press

Enter

 to complete the

calibration. Or, press

Cal

to cancel the calibration and return to the Run screen.
