ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
1 Check the electrical supply to be sure that it meets the
values specified on the nameplate and unit wiring label.
2. The complete connection diagram and schematic wiring
label is located on the inside surface of the front access
panel. Typical field wiring is shown in Figure 5.
3. All field wiring is to be in accordance with National Electrical
Code (NEC), Canadian Electrical Code C22.2, Part 1
and/or local or city codes.
4. Install the proper size weatherproof disconnect switch out-
doors and within sight of the unit.
5. Run power wiring from the disconnect switch to the unit.
6. Install the proper size time-delay fuses or circuit breaker
and make the power supply connections.
ROOM THERMOSTAT
The thermostat should be located about 5 feet above the floor
where it will be exposed to normal room air circulation. Do not
place it on an outside wall or where it is exposed to the radiant
effect from exposed glass or appliances, drafts from outside
doors or supply air grilles.
Mount the thermostat and route the 24-volt control wiring (NEC
Class 2) from the thermostat to the indoor and outdoor units.
To eliminate erratic operation, control wiring must be 18 AWG.
Use of improper wire size may effect operation of unit.
Route the control wiring into the outdoor unit through the hole
provided. Connect the control wiring. Refer to Figure 5.

NOTE: Power wiring, disconnect switch, and overcur-
rent protection to be supplied by the installer. USE
COPPER CONDUCTORS ONLY. U n it mus t be
grounded with a separate ground conductor wire.
CAUTION: Use only the thermostat supplied with the
unit, or an exact replacement. Use of any other thermo-
stat could cause unit damage.
NOTE: The thermostat is shipped with the indoor unit
or furnace.
CAUTION: When the E3GE unit is installed with electric
strip back-up heat air handler F*GE, a jumper must be
installed across pins 5 and 6 on the J-8 connector on
the system controller, located in the outdoor unit. The
jumper is provided with the outdoor unit and is taped to
the control module. Failure to install the jumper will
result in improper heat pump operation (i.e., the heat
pump system will lock out at outdoor temperatures
below 43
°
F). See wiring diagram on Page 20.
NOTE: Seal the hole in the wall at the thermostat with
permagum or equivalent to prevent air drafts affecting
the anticipators in the thermostat.
