Design WD202 DAC
Using your WD202 with your computer
USB or Optical?
An increasing number of computers these days offer an optical output (most have a mini-jack which can output
analog or digital audio). Because the performance of optical is significantly better than USB, our
recommendation is to choose optical whenever possible.
USB Connection
Connect a USB type ‘B to A’ lead (square plug at one end, oblong at the other) from your WD202 USB input to
one of the USB ports on your computer. Switch on the WD202 using the on/off switch on the front panel and
select USB which will light.
MAC Users (OSX and later)
No driver is required and as soon as connected, the WD202 will be detected and your Mac will automatically
send all audio signals, except system sounds, to your WD202 instead of the built-in soundcard.
You can do this manually if required by going to System Preferences / Sound. In the sound menu go to the
output tab and below ‘Choose a device for sound output’ select YBA Design WD202. Go to the ‘sound effects’
tab and make sure all OS sounds are routed to internal speakers so that they do not output to the WD202.
If you wish to disconnect your WD202 and return to your soundcard, simply disconnect or switch off the power
on the front panel.
Windows Users
It is necessary to download a driver. The file can be downloaded from the YBA website -
www.ybahifi.com/wd202.html When you have completed the download and you connect your WD202, the
Windows 'Found new hardware' bubble will appear. The description of the WD202 will be XMOS XS1-L1 Audio.
After a few seconds you will receive a message 'Your new hardware is installed and ready to use'. Your PC's
previous audio output device should be temporarily disabled and the WD202 will become the default audio
device automatically. This can be checked in the Control Panel. Select Sounds and Audio Devices. In the volume
tab check XMOS XS1-L1 Audio.
If you wish to disconnect your WD202 and return to your soundcard, simply disconnect or switch off the power
on the front panel. If for some reason your PC fails to disable the WD202, you can manually do this in the
Hardware Device Manager.
Using your WD202 wirelessly
The WD202 works seamlessly with Apple’s Airport Express base station as well as Apple TV. It is also compatible
with several streaming devices which offer a digital or coaxial output.
The only thing you need to do is to connect the digital output of the device you are using (i.e. Airport Express,
Apple TV, Streamer etc.) to the optical input of your WD202 and you’re done!
