Horn switch check
Push the horn switch and check that the horn
sounds.

Engine shut-off cord (lanyard) check
Make sure that the engine shut-off cord (lan-
yard) is not damaged. If the cord is damaged,
replace it.
WARNING! Never try to repair
the engine shut-off cord (lanyard) or tie it
together. The engine shut-off cord (lan-
yard) may not pull free when the operator
falls off, allowing the boat to continue to
run and cause an accident.
Post-launch checks
Perform the post-launch checks in the pre-
operation checklist while the boat is in the
water and the engine is running.
Engine shut-off switch check
Check the engine shut-off switch for proper
operation.
(1) Start the engine. (See page 96 for infor-
mation on starting the engine.)
(2) Pull the engine shut-off cord (lanyard) to
remove the clip from the engine shut-off
switch to make sure that the engine
stops immediately.
(3) Make sure that the engine cannot be
started with the clip removed from the
engine shut-off switch.

Cooling water pilot outlet check
Check that water comes out from the pilot
outlet while the engine is running in the water.
If water is not circulating, something may be
clogging the intake grate. Refer to “Jet pump
clean-out procedure” on page 128.
