Chapter 4 - PowerPack: PowerControl Software
Provided that your system reboots correctly, you are now
ready to use the PowerControl software by launching the
application from the PowerControl folder within the XLR8
folder which was placed on your Startup Disk.
Using PowerControl
When PowerControl is opened the following window
appears:
There are five buttons that bring up information about por-
tions of your machine: Processors, Memory, Tests, SCSI
Devices, PCI Cards.
About PowerControl software
PowerControl is an application that allows you to peer into
the world of your PowerMac. In addition to displaying system
information such as the amount of memory and number of
processors installed in your computer, PowerControl contains
a processor utilization monitor and a set of diagnostics to
help confirm both single processor and multiprocessor opera-
tions.
Installing PowerControl software
Installation of the PowerControl software is fully automatic.
This Installer will install both PowerControl and PowerFrax on
your system by creating an XLR8 folder on your Startup Disk.
1. After booting your Macintosh, insert the XLR8 CD-Rom.
2. Open the Power Pack Folder and review the ReadMe files
on the disk for any last minute changes or updates.
3. Launch the Installer program by double-clicking the
installer icon in the software disk’s desktop window, or by
selecting the icon, then selecting “Open” in the File menu
while working at the desktop level.
4. Read the text and follow the on-screen instructions until
you have completed the installation.
5. Restart your computer.
