WSD
Web Services for Devices (WSD) is technology from Microsoft that provides a standard method for
discovering and using network connected devices. It is supported in Windows Vista and Windows Server
2008 operating systems. WSD is one of several supported communication protocols.
WSD services include a group of Web services that allow devices to discover the printer and print and
transfer files remotely. You can enable the following WSD services:
WS-Discovery
: Enable this service on the printer to allow other devices on an unmanaged network
with limited directory resources to discover it.
WS-Discovery Multicast
: Enable this service to allow the printer to enable Multicast protocol
response and announcement through WS-Discovery. Multicast Discovery communicates the service
URLs provided by the printer to client computers on the network. The multicast address used is
239.255.255.250 on IPv4 networks and FF02::C on IPv6 networks.
WS-Print
: Enable this service to allow the printer to announce print services through WS-Discovery.
WS-Transfer
: This service is automatically enabled when you enable WS-Discovery. WS-Transfer
defines how to invoke a simple set of familiar verbs, such as Get, Post, Put, and Delete, using SOAP.
