Customer Expectation Setting Document for
Document Centre ColorSeries 50
December 12, 2001
•
To ensure optimal performance in the office environment, the
default-printing mode for this product has been set to Screened
(1 bit) mode. In this mode, all neutral colors will print in single-
color black (K-only). This will ensure that auto-grayscale
detection allows the printing of grayscale bitmap images at 50
pages per minute in a mixed color and black and white job.
Printing Resolution
Maximum print resolution for all paper sizes is 600 dpi x 600 dpi x 8
bits per pixel per color. The Document Centre ColorSeries 50 uses
variable frame compression, therefore, in rare circumstances; lossy
compression may be exhibited. The Document Centre ColorSeries 50
has been designed to satisfy the growing needs of printing, both in
color and BW, in the office environment.
Maximum Image Sizes
The Document Centre ColorSeries 50 will reproduce 11x17” full bleed
when printing on 12x18” paper. Full bleed is defined as providing an
extra 3 mm image area around the perimeter of 11x17”. The
maximum image are:

Color Management
The Document Centre ColorSeries 50 does not support Pantone
matching. It does not have color management tools required for the
sophisticated prepress color user.
•
The appearance of the document displayed on the monitor
screen may not match the output print unless calibration and
color correction tools are used.
•
For imported RGB images, optimal color is achieved in the EPS
and TIFF format. Other imported file formats may produce
unexpected results.
Color Calibration
Two methods of calibration are provided:
•
ColorCal is achieved using the ScanBack feature
•
QuickCal is a visual calibration system
Either method is accessible from CentreWare Internet Services or via
the Color Calibration Utility.
Document Feeder
The Duplexing Automatic Document Feeder (DADF) will handle
originals from 5.5 x 8.5” to 11 x 17” in size, and from 16 to 28 lb. Bond
in weight. The DADF has a maximum capacity of 50 sheets (based on
20 lb. Paper).

Recommended paper to maximize image quality is Color
Xpressions 24 lb (smooth bright white paper). This paper is
specifically designed to maximize image quality and machine
performance over a wide range of environmental conditions.
•
Attempts to feed heavier than recommended paper stocks may
cause machine damage or poor image quality.
•
Label stock must be fed from trays 2-4 using heavyweight mode.
Feeding label stock from the Multiple Sheet Inserter may result in
labels peeling and causing the printer damage.
•
Xerox stock 32 lb. bond (3R5093) and 60 lb. cover (3R5095),
which were designed for the xerographic process, can be run
satisfactorily. Coated papers are not expected to match the
performance of Color Xpressions 24 lb.
