Customer Expectation Setting Document for

Document Centre ColorSeries 50

December 12, 2001

Volume Range / Position / Performance

The Document Centre ColorSeries 50 is designed to provide
“benchmark” image quality and performance for its product class.  This
product is designed to be operated in the range of  7,000 to 30,000
copies / prints per month. To optimize machine uptime it is
recommended that black & white output not exceed 70 % of total
copy/print volume. Continuous run b&w jobs (>1000 prints) should be
avoided or intermixed with color jobs in order to ensure optimal
operation of the development system. The number of copies or prints
between service calls on a digital color/ B&W copier/ printer is highly
dependent on customer expectations of quality and the use of
applications and thruput materials.  At an average usage of 15,000
copies or prints per month, it is expected that service will be required
about once every 4 to 6 weeks.

Billing Meters

The Document Centre ColorSeries 50 provides accurate billing
of all color and gray scale/black & white images in black
detection mode.

When black detection is enabled, productivity will be slightly
affected by the copier mode changing from gray scale/black to
full color mix or from full color mix to gray scale/black.

When Contone Mode is selected pages that contain bitmaps that
have black or near black will be billed as color pages, even with
auto-grayscale detection enabled.

Copy / Print Speed

The Document Centre ColorSeries 50 maintains the same print speed
whether it is performing single sided printing or 2-sided printing.
Therefore, the number of “images” per minute will be the same for 2-
sided printing as it is for single sided printing.

Actual Print Speed / System Performance

The maximum print speed is 12.5 pages per minute in full color
and 50 pages per minute in gray scale/black and white.

Overall system performance (‘Click to Clunk’ time) is primarily
dependent upon the software applications, file size, and network
environment being used. Rasterizing (RIP-ing) is only a portion
of Click to Clunk time.

Printing with custom software applications may produce

unexpected or unknown results.

Image Quality

The Document Centre ColorSeries 50 is designed to provide
“benchmark” image quality and performance for its product class.
However, Color Image Quality is subjective and can be impacted
by lighting, and is strongly influenced by paper (consult the
Materials Usage Guide for recommended paper list).

Transparencies are non-absorbent and may exhibit non-uniform
density streaks in large solid areas due to the fuser agent film.

Registration specifications are ±1.6 mm along the lead edge and
±2.1 mm along the side edge.

To preserve high image quality in Contone (8 bit) mode, black or
near-black areas in bitmap images will print with the supporting
CMYK “process black”.  This will result in a more vivid, higher
contrast image.  This will however, result in the document printing
in color (12.5 pages per minute) mode, even with auto-grayscale
detection enabled.
