The charging process
The Avena 100 has five charging phases to charge and maintain the battery in the
correct way. The charger will always start in main charging mode. This first charging
phase has a minimum duration of 30 minutes, so also with the connection of a full
battery. In the second phase, absorption charging, and possibly the third phase of
compensation charging, the battery is charged to 100% capacity. The duration of full
charging process depends on the battery quality, battery capacity or depth of
discharge.
The red LED charge indicator stays on during the whole charging process.
When the charging process has finished the charger will switch to float charging (green
LED charge indicator) and the battery is given a so-called maintenance charge. Should
the charger stay in float charge mode for 24 hours with a very low current, the charger
switches to ‘Jogging’ mode (green LED flashes). This jogging mode is for batteries that
are put away for a longer time, for example during a stalling period.
Important
The charging process may only be stopped when it is finished, so when the green
LED from the charging process lights or flashes. If the charging process is
interrupted before it is completed, the battery loses its charge and its acid balance.
If the battery or mains voltage is disconnected, the current charging process will stop
and the charger switches to the stand-by position (all LEDs off). If a battery and the
mains voltage are connected, a new charging process will start.
If the mains voltage is disconnected and the charger is not used for a longer period, the
battery must also be disconnected.
LED indications
The status of the charger and charging process can be seen by the three LEDs on the
front. The LEDs have the following meanings:
