I N T R O D U C T I O N
The Avena 100 is a fully automatic battery charger with 5-stage charge characteristic
specially developed for the rehabilitation market. The charger can be left connected to
the mains power supply and to the battery permanently. The micro processor
supervises the battery and the charge process continuously so that a very safe and
accurate process can be guaranteed. The internal electronics comes from the latest
developments, which resulted in a exceptionally intelligent battery charger.
The Avena 100 can be used for a large diversity of lead acid batteries, such as, semi-
traction, GEL and AGM. The charger is suitable for many battery types because the
charge voltages can be set. There is also the possibility to include an extra charging
phase (phase compensation) whereby the voltage increases to 32 volts in combination
with a reduced and limited charge current.
The Avena 100 has no fan so it operates completely silently. Because of heat emission
the charger must always be used in the
standing position
, and avoid blocking the
ventilation openings at all times.
The battery should be charged in an area with adequate ventilation because it may
emit explosive gases. The Avena 100 may not be used outdoors.
Important
Don’t not charge when there is a fuel leak or fuel is evaporating.
F E A T U R E S
The Avena 100 contains a wide variety of features and protections to promote the
usability, but off course also to ensure that the charge process progresses extremely
safe.
Short circuit (output)
The charger is protected from short circuit when no battery is connected, even in the
presence of the main voltage.
Batteries on the other hand cannot withstand short
circuit!
You should for this reason never short circuit the battery. Never short circuit
when the charger is connected to the battery, irrespective of whether the main voltage
is present. When a battery is short circuited there is a danger that it will explode!!! The
charger too will then incur serious damage.
Reverse polarisation
The polarised XLR connection makes polarity reversal as good as impossible. However,
the Avena 100 battery charger is
NOT
protected against polarity reversal. If polarity
reversal does occur the charger will become defective. The repair costs are then not
covered by the guarantee.
Temperature
Because the Avena 100 has no fan, it is dependent on its heat loss through the housing
(passive cooling). If the internal temperature rises to high the charger will reduce the
charge current. If this has insufficient effect and the temperature continues to rise,
charging is paused. The ‘power’ indication will light up red. When the charger has
cooled sufficiently the charging process will automatically resume and the ‘power’
indication will light up green again.
