Installation
Local and Remote Sensing
Release 3.1
55
To connect remote sense lines:
1. Turn OFF the power supply.
2. Remove the local sense jumpers connecting J10 mating connector terminal 5
(positive sense) to terminal 4 (positive output) and terminal 1 (return sense) to
terminal 2 (power supply return).
3. Connect the positive remote sense lead to J10 mating connector terminal 5
(positive sense) and the negative lead to terminal 1 (return sense). Ensure the
mating connector is plugged securely into the rear panel sense connector.
Connect the other ends of the sense wires to the corresponding sense points at
the load.
4. To prevent ground loops, ground the sense line shield, at one point only, to the
power supply’s return output connection at the load, to the power supply's return
output at its negative output terminal, or to the power supply’s chassis.
5. Turn ON the power supply.
Figure 2.12 shows a sample setup for using remote sensing.
Note
I
f you operate the power supply with remote sense lines connected to the load
and with either of the positive or negative load lines not connected, the shutdown circuit
will activate, causing the output voltage and current to fall to zero
If you operate the power supply without remote sense lines or local sense jumpers in
place, the supply will continue to work, but supply regulation will be degraded and/or
erratic; or, the OVP circuit may activate.
