Connecting to an Existing AC Circuit

If you install the PROwatt 3000 into an electrical system that also uses
power from a generator or a utility line, you must include a switch that
prevents the inverter and the other power source from being connected to
the AC distribution system at the same time. See
“Installing Transfer
Switches in AC Circuits” on page 3–9 .
AC Wiring Procedure
The PROwatt 3000 is equipped with internal wires that allow you to make
a permanent connection to an AC circuit.
To make a permanent connection to existing AC wiring:
1. Make sure no DC voltage is being supplied to the inverter, and make
sure no AC voltage is present on the AC wiring.
2. Remove the two screws that fasten the AC receptacle to the front
panel, and pull the receptacle away from the inverter. This reveals the
AC wiring compartment as shown in
Figure 3-1 .
3. Cut the three conductors that are soldered to the receptacle and
remove the receptacle, but make sure you cut the black wire only
before the circuit breaker. The green and white wires can be cut close
to the receptacle.
4. Remove one of the knockouts on the AC end of the inverter.
5. Insert the cable clamp in the hole.
6. Feed 2-conductor-plus-ground 10 AWG AC cable through the hole.
WARNING: Electrical Shock Hazard
115 Vac power is potentially lethal. Do not work on the AC
wiring unless the DC power source is physically disconnected
from the inverter.
Do not work on the AC wiring if it is connected to another AC
power source such as a generator or the utility line.
