Controller Board Upgrades

The RAM, Ethernet, 10/100BaseT, and internal IDE hard disk
upgrades are controller board modifications. This section covers
installing SODIMM (Small Outline Dual Insertion Memory
Module), firmware (flash ROM), and Ethernet upgrades.

To install a controller board upgrade

1.

Remove the controller board.

2.

Install the upgrade(s).

3.

Replace the controller board.

Caution:

Static electricity can destroy electronic components,
such as your controller board, SODIMMs, firmware,
hard disk, and Ethernet board. Use an anti-static
wristband or touch an unpainted metal surface to
eliminate static electricity before working with boards
and upgrades; also, always hold boards and upgrades by
their edges and avoid walking on carpeted areas.

Removing the Controller Board

1.

Make sure the printer displays a

PLEASE WAIT

or

READY/IDLE

message. Then, turn off the printer and

disconnect the power cord from the power supply.

2.

Remove any media in the output area.

3.

Loosen the two thumbscrews on the back of the printer’s
controller board access panel (fig. 10.17).
