Felling trees
1
Caution! Risk of accidents
z
Fell trees only if you have adequate ex-
perience in doing so!
z
Fell only those trees whose trunk diame-
ter is smaller than the length of the chain
saw blade.
1
Caution! Falling direction
z
Take care to ensure that the tree cannot
get hooked in other trees while felling.
z
While felling the trees, take the inclina-
tion and bend of the tree into considera-
tion as well as the wind direction.
1
Caution!
z
Take care to ensure that there are no
persons or animals in the danger zone
(area of the tree falling).
z
The danger zone
is equivalent to
double the length of the tree.
z
Keep two escape routes free where
there is no risk of stumbling, should the
tree not tilt and fall in the expected direc-
tion
(
= Escape routes;
= Planned direction of fall;
= Danger zone)
1.
Remove any branches on the tree that hinder
the felling of the tree.
2.
Cut a groove in the trunk of the tree
.
3
This groove determines the direction in
which the tree falls and must be 1/4 the
trunk diameter.
3.
Continue with the felling cut on the side oppo-
site to that where the initial groove has been
cut .
3
The felling cut must be made 3-5 cm
above the horizontal line of the groove
cut initially.
1
Caution! Risk of accidents
The felling cut must end at a distance that is
1/10 of the trunk diameter. The trunk should
not be completely cut through under any cir-
cumstances, since otherwise the tree falls
uncontrollably.
3
The uncut part of the trunk serves as a
hinge.
4.
After the groove cut and the felling cut have
been completed, the tree begins to fall. Use
felling ropes or cables (if required) for support.
Removing branches from the trunk
1
Let those branches that support the
felled tree remain initially.
z
Remove the branches of the tree trunk from
the bottom to the top
.
Cutting the tree trunk to size
1
Caution!
z
Avoid touching the ground with the saw
chain when it is operating. This leads to
premature wear of the chain.
The tree trunk is lying steady
1.
Saw off the tree trunk up to 2/3 of the diameter
from the top to the bottom
.
2.
Turn the tree trunk around
.
3.
Saw off the tree trunk completely from the top
to the bottom
.
3
By turning the tree trunk around you pre-
vent the saw chain from touching the
ground.
Tree trunk supported on one side
3
Proceed as follows so that the tree trunk
does not splinter while sawing it:
1.
Saw off the tree trunk up to 1/3 of the diameter
from the bottom to the top
.
2.
Saw off the tree trunk completely from the
top
.
Tree trunk supported on both sides
3
Proceed as follows so that the saw chain
does not get jammed while sawing:
1.
Saw off the tree trunk up to 1/3 of the diameter
from the top to the bottom
.
2.
Saw off the tree trunk completely from the bot-
tom .
