4.5 EMERGENCY GEAR
OPERATION
An emergency hand pump is provided in
case of total electric pump failure or loss of
fluid. The emergency hand pump draws
hydraulic fluid from the bottom of the
hydraulic power pack reservoir. The
hydraulic power pack electric pumps have
fluid pickup tubes that do not reach the
bottom of the hydraulic fluid reservoir. This
prevents the electric pump from being able
to pump all the fluid out of the system.
The remaining small reserve quantity of
fluid below the electric pump pickup tube is
then reserved exclusively for the emergency
hand pump. The quantity of reserve fluid
below the electric pump pickup tubes is
sufficient to raise or lower the landing gear
with the hand pump alone.
