Chapter 4 SATA Driver Installation
SATA interface is a new, fast, disk drive standard, but Windows doesn't come with
device drivers. Without the proper drivers installed, your system can not recognize a
SATA drive.
4.1 Get the right Drivers
The first step is to get the right drivers. SATA drivers generally place on your driver
CD that comes with your A831 board. However you also can check the
manufacturer’s web site and download the latest versions of the drivers.
4.2 Installing SATA Drivers
Windows expects you to install the SATA drivers from a floppy. Therefore, load the
SATA drivers onto a floppy disk and be connected with an USB external floppy disk
driver. If this is a new system, you will be installing a fresh copy of Windows XP.
During the initial portion of the Windows Set-Up, there will be a point where a
message flashes on the screen telling you to press
F6.
The message scrolls past
quickly, so be alert for it. Pressing
F6
will give you the opportunity to install your new
drivers.
