4. Measuring Distances
ƒ After inserting the battery and closing the battery compartment cover, the
unit can be turned on. Set the ON/OFF switch (6) to “ON” and then briefly
press the “START / MEASURE” key in the key pad (5).
ƒ The LC display (4) displays „0 0“and the unit of measurement “Foot / Inch”.
To set meters as unit of measurement, press the “M/I °C/°F” key in the key
pad (5). “0.00” and the dimension unit “m” are displayed.
ƒ As the next step, decide whether you want to use the rear end of the unit
(Fig. 1) or the front end of the unit (Fig. 2) as start of the measured
distance. The modes can be switched with the „FRONT/AFTER” key in the
key pad (5). The selected mode is indicated at the right of the display.
Measuring from the front end of the unit is indicated in the upper right of the
display and measuring from the aft end of the unit is indicated in the lower
right of the display.
ƒ After these settings have been made,
point the unit at the measuring target.
Hold the unit parallel to the desired
measuring line to achieve the best
results. If the unit is tilted, the
measured distance is longer then the
actual distance. Keep in mind that the
unit is intended to measure distances
between 45 cm and 18 m.
ƒ To take a measurement press
“START/MEASURE” briefly. The
aiming laser (1) turns on and
indicates the spot, on which the
measurement is taken. After several
popping sounds, which are for
measuring, the measured distance is
displayed. If instead “Err” or an implausible value is displayed, the distance
was either under 45 cm or over 18 m. It may also be possible that no
