Using
Using
1. Place the scythe (10) in the thinning
machine, as shown in the picture. Lightly
tilt the scythe and make sure the edge of
the scythe is placed into the guide notch
(9).
2. Hold the scythe firmly with your left hand.
3. Turn the crank (8) quickly and smartly to
the right. Make sure the scythe is still
placed into the guide notch (9).
4. Slowly push the scythe forwards.
Additionally the scythe is moved forwards
bit by bit by the motion of the balls.
5. Thin the edge of the scythe approx. 3 – 4
times with the thinning machine. Finally
plan uneven spots of the edge with
sharpening steel.
If you are trained in using the thinning
machine you can completely tilt the scythe
rest (5) and thin the tool free-hand. Please
note that little practice is required for
thinning, as for all manual tasks.
Maintenance, Cleaning and Storing
Grease the ball and the thrust block (10) from time to time with less oil or
grease. The balls and honing disk are manufactured from the very best
material and are practically unbreakable.
Clean the scythe resp. the sickle before thinning with the machine. If dirt
gets into the honing disk and between the balls, effective thinning is not
possible.
Protect the thinning machine from rain. Store the thinning machine in a dry
place out of dust and dirt.
