5. Assembly
Before continuing, ensure you have completely read and understood this manual’s
Safety section, in addition to the safety information in the section(s) below.
5.1. Assembly Safety
• Do not take chances with safety. The components can be large, heavy, and hard to handle.
Always use the proper tools, rated lifting equipment, and lifting points for the job.
• Carry out assembly in a large open area with a level surface.
• Always have two or more people assembling the pea upgrade kit.
• Make sure you have sufficient lighting for the work area.
• Tighten all fasteners according to their specifications. Do not replace or substitute bolts,
nuts, or other hardware that is of lesser quality than the hardware supplied by the
manufacturer.
• Stay away from overhead power lines and other obstructions during assembly. Contact with
power lines can cause electrocution.
• Do not work in high winds.
5.2. Pea Upgrade Kit Installation
For Models 145, 146, 147, 148, 195, 196, 197 and 198 Bins on Hopper
These kits can be installed on Model 145, 146, 147, 148, 195, 196, 197 and 198 bins for added vertical strength
when mounted on hopper bottoms. They MUST be used for pea storage on hopper mounted bins. Bins in this
application require additional uprights due to the "mass flow" phenomenon experienced during unloading.
1. Locate the position of additional uprights as shown on the layouts in Section 6.1. – Wall Sheet and Upright
Layout on page 19 .
2. Install additional uprights using 3/8" x 1" bolts and nuts at horizontal seams.
a. Use 3/8 washers at slots in uprights.
b. Do not install the bottom bolts at this time to ease assembly to the cone.
3. Using upright as a template drill 3/8 holes in 3 bottom tiers only - spaced vertically every 10".
4. Once all bolts have been installed and tightened, lift the bin into place on the cone.
5. Install bin-to-hopper bolts and tighten.
6. Install the upright supports inside the cone, between uprights and the cone.
a. Push firmly up into place.
b. Use sheet metal screws to install the upright supports. (See Figure 3 on page 18 .)
c. If necessary, place steel shims (not supplied) between the uprights and the upright supports to ensure
full contact between upright and the support. This is critical to the strength of the bin.
