Maintenance instructions
1.1
Cleaning (to be performed at least once a year;
more frequently if required)
• Cleaning aluminium parts and profiles
• Cleaning the roof covering
• Cleaning the water drains
1.2
General cleaning guidelines
• Acids and aggressive cleaning agents such as abrasives, steel
wool, scouring pads and knives/blades, as well as solvent-based
cleaners (thinner, benzene) are not suitable cleaning materials
and may cause considerable damage.
• All regulations relating to accident prevention, environmental
compliance and sealing off the immediate surroundings must be
observed at all times.
1.3
Cleaning powder-coated aluminium elements
• So that you may enjoy your conservatory for many years to come,
we recommend that you clean the aluminium elements at least
once a year – and even more often if heavily soiled.
• To do so, use plain water only, which may also contain minor
amounts of pH-neutral or very weakly alkaline detergents.
1.4
Cleaning the roof covering
• We recommend that you contract a cleaning firm to clean the
roof covering.
• Over time, dirt may accumulate in the areas above the cover strip
for the glass, as well as above the transom cover profile if fitted
(Pict 1.4).
• Always follow the instructions provided by the roof covering
manufacturer when cleaning the roof covering.
• Use ample amounts of clean water to clean the roof covering to
avoid dirt particles scratching the surface.
• Use neutral cleaning agents as far as possible to clean the roof
covering.
• Do not use sharp objects to clean the roof covering as these may
damage the roof covering.
• Always use a secure ladder if you need to climb onto the roof to
clean the covering. Do not walk across the roof covering during
cleaning. Should you need to walk across the roof covering at
any time, always contact the manufacturer of the roof covering
first to find out whether this is possible. Caution: beware of
slipping on the roof covering – even if only pitched at a low
angle – if it has become damp or wet.
• Should you need to climb onto the roof covering to clean it,
make sure that your shoes are clean. Hard, sharp objects on the
sole of a shoe can result in the roof covering becoming damaged.
• Secure yourself to prevent falls.
1.5
Cleaning the water drains
• To ensure proper water drainage, ensure that all drains have
been cleared of rough dirt and foreign bodies. Also clear any
snow and ice in winter. The following list comprises the minimum
areas that must be cleaned:
• guttering
• drain pipes
• overflow
• leaf guard (if fitted)
• antifrost hole in the post (must be checked repeatedly during the
winter season) (Pict 1.5.1).
• Certain roof designs require checks on whether water is draining
off from the roof surface into the gutter. Foliage and dirt that
has accumulated in these areas may hamper the drainage of
water (Pict 1.5.2).
Important guidelines for the winter season:
• During wintery conditions and snowfalls, and when tempera-
tures fluctuate around freezing point, you may find snow has
settled and/or ice has formed on outer parts which may result in
openings (doors, windows, vents, etc.) freezing up and thus
becoming unusable. These are not product deficiencies. To
restore the parts in question to full operability, you will need to
free them from any snow and ice in the proper manner.
• Gutter heating can be fitted to keep snow and ice off the
guttering during the winter season.
• The guttering must be kept free of snow and ice to eliminate
any danger of the drains freezing up and snowmelt not draining
away when temperatures fluctuate around freezing point.
This may result in water seeping into the interior and causing
damage.
• Snow and ice allowed to accumulate in the drain pipes may cause
them to burst. Therefore take special care in the winter season to
ensure that the drain pipes are always kept clear.
