Adjustable Main Jets for
Bendix Carburetors
Item‑
№
65‑605
Adjustment: set main jet to its basic position (4
turns out from fully seated position). Ride the mo‑
torcycle until the engine is hot. On a low traffic
road accelerate in high gear from low revs. If the
mixture is too lean, the engine will hesitate to take
up speed. If the mixture is too rich it will stutter
during acceleration. Adjust main jet with half turns
(out = rich, in = lean). Keep on trying until engine
accelerates smoothly. Usually the correct adjust‑
ment is between 2‑1/2 and 4‑1/2 turns out. To con‑
clude check your spark plugs.
Installation requires a 9/32“‑32 tap, a 9/16“ wrench
and a metal drill bit. Carefully remove the press
plug above the idle jet. If possible turn the drill
by hand. Remove the hex head main jet from the
bottom of the float bowl. With a punch of proper
size press out the idle jet towards top of carb. Take
care and do not use excessive force. Tap the carb
opening with the 9/32“ thread. Blow out flakes and
debris with compressed air. Install the new main jet
with gasket and O‑ring. Install the adjustable need‑
le from the kit with its spring.
Drill here and remove
idle jet.
