4.17 To Start

Before starting, be sure you read and understand all the safety and
operating instructions in this manual.
4.17.1
Disconnect all loads from the generator and place the main circuit
breaker switch in the "OFF" (open) position.

Set the Auto Idle Switch to "OFF"

Open the fuel valve

Note:
If the engine is cold, move the choke lever to the closed position
(e1)
. If the engine is warm, set the choke to the open position
(e2)
.
4.17.4
On recoil start engines, turn the engine switch to “ON”

and pull the
starter rope
(g)

4.17.5
On electric start engines, press the engine switch to "START"
(b1)
and
hold it there until the engine starts. Release the switch after the engine
starts.
CAUTION:
DO NOT run the starter motor more than 5 seconds at a
time or starter motor damage may occur. If the engine fails to start,
release the switch and wait 10 seconds to let the starter motor cool
before trying again.
Note:
If the oil level in the engine is low, the engine will not start. If this
happens, check the oil level and add oil as needed.

As the engine warms up, move the choke lever to the OPEN position
(e2)
.
4.17.7
Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before placing the main
breaker in the "ON" (closed) position

and attaching loads.
