Dear Customer,
Thank you for choosing Team Orion’s Vortex brushless micro motor electronic speed
controller (ESC). This ESC features the latest developments in R/C car brushless
electronic speed controller technology. The Vortex electronic speed controller (ESC)
can be used with all compatible micro sensorless brushless motors. It has forward
and reverse capability and can be powered with NiCd, NiMH or LiPo batteries. A
special low voltage cut-off function prevents possible damage to the battery and/
or loss of control. Several advanced parameters can be tuned to better fit your
requirements. Please read these instructions carefully to ensure that you receive
maximum performance and reliability from your electronic speed controller.
ESC Installation
It is important that the ESC is securely attached to the chassis and that there is
a good airflow around it. Install the ESC so that it has enough airflow for cooling
during operation and so that you can easily connect the controller to the motor. Make
sure that the parts are clean and attach the controller using double-sided tape. Find
a convenient location for the switch and use double sided tape to attach it to the
chassis. Make sure the switch is off once it is installed. Connect the ESC’s receiver
wire to the receiver (refer to your transmitter instructions if needed). Connect the
three wires from the ESC to the motor connectors or tabs, following the A-B-C
sequence.
ESC setup
The ESC is equipped with a setup button and two LED of different colors to help you
setup the various parameters and indicate the ESC status. Before you can use it,
the ESC needs to be setup to match your transmitter’s inputs. Make sure that your
transmitter’s trims are centered, that the throttle and brake are set at 100% travel
and the throttle exponential is at 0%. If the ESC does not respond to the transmitters
inputs during setup, try to use the throttle reverse function of your transmitter. Switch
the transmitter on, press and hold the setup button on the ESC. Switch on the ESC,
after 3 seconds, the green LED will lit, release the button. The ESC is in setup mode.
Neutral point setting:
Place the transmitter’s throttle on neutral and press the setup
button once. The green LED will blink one time repeatedly.
Full throttle setting:
Place the transmitter’s throttle on full throttle and press the setup button once. The
green LED will blink twice repeatedly.
Full brake setting:
Place the transmitter’s
throttle on full brake and press the setup button once. The green LED will blink
three times repeatedly. After a short time the LED returns to solid green. Turn the
ESC off and then on again to complete the setup procedure.
