Electric Fuel Pumps
EFI engines have two electric fuel pumps, contained in
a fuel cell on the front of the engine:
•
A high-pressure pump
A
to supply the fuel injectors.
•
A low-pressure pump
B
to bring fuel from the boat
tank to the engine.
Both pumps are protected by a common 20-amp fuse
and are controlled by a relay. See the next section. The
pumps will operate only when the engine is cranking
or running. If a pump is not working, check the fuse and
replace if necessary. See your Volvo Penta dealer if
further service is required.
The fuel filter
C
is also mounted to the fuel cell. To
change the filter, see
Engine Fuel Filter Replacement
.
NOTICE!
A loud whining noise at idle may be due to a
restricted fuel filter causing a noisy fuel pump.
Operating the engine with a restricted filter may
damage the pressure regulator or fuel pumps. See
your Volvo Penta dealer if the pump makes an unusual
noise.
