7. CLEANING AND mAINTENANCE

You do not need to service the power supply unit, apart from an occasional cleaning.
Always unplug the power plug from the mains socket before cleaning the device.
To clean the device, use a clean, slightly damp, fuzz-free, antistatic cleaning cloth.
Leave the device to dry completely before putting it into operation again.

Fuse replacement

If it is no longer possible to switch on the power supply unit, the device fuse is probably defec-

tive and has to be replaced.
Proceed as follows to replace the device fuse:
•   Switch off the power supply unit and remove all the connection and mains cables.
•   Release the bayonet lock on the fuse bracket (6) at the rear with slight pressure in the

direction of the arrow (a quarter turn). Pull the fuse insert out of the device.

•   Replace the defective fuse with a new fine-wire fuse (5x20 mm) of the same type and rated

current. You can find the fuse data in the technical data.

•   Insert the fuse bracket and lock it in the reverse order.

make sure that only fuses of the type stated and of the rated current specified

are used as a replacement. Using repaired fuses or bridging the fuse bracket

is not permitted.

If you have technical questions concerning the use of the device, feel free to

contact our technical support.

5. CommISSIoNING

Regularly check the technical safety of the device e.g. for damage to the housing or

the power cable.

Make sure the load is switched off when you connect it to the power supply unit.

Connecting the power cable

•   Connect an IEC power cable (not included in the package) to the IEC connector (7) on the

power supply unit. Check the firm fitting of the plug in the unit.

You can order a suitable power cable e.g. using the item no. 510514.

•  Connect the mains plug to a standard mains socket.
•   Switch on the power supply unit using the operating switch (1). The power supply unit will

indicate the correct operation with a light indicator (3).

Connecting a consumer load

In selecting the connecting cables (cable) make sure that the cable cross-

section is adequate (on account of the current load/cable losses) and that the

insulation is intact.

•   The output voltage is preset to approximately 13.8 V direct current (=DC). Prior to connect-

ing a consumer load, check the output voltage using a voltage meter and if required, adjust

the output voltage on the setting controller “V ADJUST” (4) using a suitable screw driver.

The rated voltage is up to 8 ampere, depending on the version of the device, and it is

limited by the power supply unit. A manual current limiting by the user is not possible.

The power supply unit can have a slightly higher load in order to bridge inrush current

peaks. Observe the information in the technical data.

•  Make sure the consumer is switched off.
•   Connect the positive terminal (+) of the load with the red connection socket “+” (5) and the

negative terminal of the load with the black connection socket “-” (5).

•   The connection is made using standard 4 mm plugs. You can attach cable strands using

screw terminals. To this end, the socket heads can be screwed on.

•   Switch the consumer load on. The power consumption of the connected consumer load is

shown on the current display (2).

make sure that the load is switched off when being connected to the power

supply unit. Sparks may be generated when a switched-on consumer is

connected to the jacks. This may damage the screw terminals as well as the

connected cables.

•  To disconnect the consumer load from the power supply unit, proceed in reverse order.

6. TRoUBLESHooTING

By purchasing this power supply unit you have acquired a product with state of the art design

that is operationally reliable.
Nevertheless, problems or faults may occur.
Therefore, we would like to describe here how to eliminate possible faults:

  Always follow the safety instructions!

Problem

Solution

The power/operation

indicator does not

light up.

No mains voltage?
• Check the circuit breaker for the mains socket
•  Check the proper fit of the power cable in the power supply

unit and in the mains socket

•  Check the device fuse at the back of the unit
•  The power supply unit is overloaded and the output has been

switched off. Remove the consumer load(s) and check the

technical data.

Connected consumer

load doesn't work.

Is the power supply unit overloaded?
•  Remove the consumer load(s) and check the technical data.
Has the polarity been reversed?
• Check the correct polarity of the consumer load.

Any other repair work must be carried out only by a qualified expert who is fa-

miliar with the hazards involved and with the relevant regulations. Unauthor-

ized modifications or repairs to the device invalidate the guarantee/warranty.
