detect any hard disk (and therefore no removable hard disk in the removable
frame).
If SmartDisc detects a functional hard disk after start up with option Use
without hard disk drive activated, the option will be ignored and the
removable hard disk will be used. If the hard disk fails during operation, all
hard disk related errors will be read out until the next reset.
3.9 Device reset
The following method allows you to revert to SmartDisc factory settings. This
reset is a full device reset, reactivating factory settings. All settings, including
passwords and user names, will be deleted. If you want to delete only
passwords, use the Reset pushbutton described in chapter "Control,
indicators, and ports". (see “Controls, indicators, and ports” on page 15)
The steps
one by one

Switch the SmartDisc off.

You need a 9 pin Sub-D plug with pin 2 connected to pin 3, and pin 7
connected to pin 8.

Plug this reset plug into the interface labelled "Transp. data/Control
interface" (see “Pin assignment and functionality” on page 20) .
■
Switch the SmartDisc unit on and wait until LED Power on the front starts
flashing.
■
Remove the reset plug.
■ Your SmartDisc unit will be ready again as soon as device reset and re-
initialisation have been completed.

All recordings and the log file of a removable hard disk in the frame during
reset will be deleted. The removable hard disk will be reformatted. To keep
recordings and storage settings, remove the hard disk before Device reset
of your SmartDisc .
