Hearing loss from loud noise (from tractors, chain saws, radios, and
other sources close to the ear) is cumulative over a lifetime without
hope of natural recovery.
Hook the mower to the tractor
◼
Ensure the Flail mower/mulcher rests on solid level ground before hooking to the tractor. Move
the tractor in position and fit the mower to the 3-point hitch. DO NOT operate while raised by
the three-point hitch.
PTO shaft
◼
Ensure the junction nipples of the PTO shaft are supplied with grease.
◼
Mount the PTO shaft. Ensure that the size of the PTO shaft is correct, as described in this
Chapter. After mounting, keep the Flail mower/mulcher as close to the tractor as possible; the
shaft must not get stuck.
◼
Always keep the PTO shaft as straight as possible. Your PTO shaft will be more efficient and
have a longer life if you use it straightforwardly. An angle smaller than 15 degrees is
acceptable.
◼
If the mower is raised so that the PTO shaft is at an angle sharper than 35 degrees, then do not
start the PTO.
Mower Inspection
◼
Inspect the whole FMM visually and check all vital components and their connections; check
hoses, lines and wires for damage, kinking, wear or dirt. Review the machine checklist.
◼
Ensure the gearbox is filled with oil and that all lubrication points are greased.
◼
Visually inspect the condition of the hydraulic system.
◼
Check that the working area is relatively smooth and free of obstacles.
◼
Always maintain a full view of the working area during operation.
◼
Keep animals far away from the machine.
