6 MONITORING
The appliance will monitor and generate notifications for a variety of events. You can configure the appliance to store or
send the notifications to various destinations for immediate use or for analysis later. All events are automatically added to
the event summary tab and cannot be turned off.
When configured, appliance sensor data can trigger syslog or email alerts for any event. Digital Output (DO) relays are for
events on the back of the appliance only. They can toggle a relay to enable a fan or alarm.
6.1 Notification destinations
The appliance generates notifications for a variety of events. You can configure the appliance to direct or store event
notifications to various destinations for immediate use or for analysis later.
6.1.1 SNMP
The appliance provides support for SNMP version 2 and version 3 protocols that are individually configured for each
destination. Destination usernames are 1 - 64 alphanumeric characters in length and can include the following special
characters:

When you select SNMP version 3, the appliance allows you to configure the level of security and specify the authentication
and privacy details for the selected destination. SNMP version 3 protocol supports hash algorithms for authentication and
128-bit AES encryption for privacy. Authentication and privacy pass phrases you create using SNMP version 3 are
encrypted and stored on the appliance. The following table provides the options that are available using SNMP version 3.

To configure SNMP protocol:
1.
In the navigation menu, click
Monitoring - Notification Destinations
.
2.
Next to the destination you want to configure, click
Configure
.
3.
Click the Enable checkbox to activate the SNMP protocol.
4. Select the SNMPv2 or SNMPv3 radio button to enable it.
NOTE: The Authentication and Privacy Pass Phrase fields that appear when you select the SNMPv3 radio button must
have between 8 - 64 alphanumeric and special characters. The Engine ID (OCTET String) field, that also appears
when you select the same version, must have 10 - 64 alphanumeric characters, but cannot contain any special
characters.

Enter the information in the fields that appear as a result of your version selection.

6.1.2 Syslog
You can configure as many as four syslog rules on the appliance. Syslog rules can be assigned to as many as six syslog
facility levels. The syslog rules can forward alerts to external syslog servers or log files.
You can set up logging of messages for the following types of events:

Events of interest from the appliance
•
Sensor alarms generated by sensors on SPs
