Cleaning the Engine Compartment and
Engine
Clean the engine compartment and the engine daily
or prior to each use, to reduce the risk of the engine
overheating or the ignition of accumulated debris.
1. If the power unit has been running, allow the
engine to cool.
2. Remove the left and right engine covers.
3. Remove accumulated debris and dust from the
engine compartment and the engine.

Remove the carburetor access panel (A) from the
engine to clean around the carburetor and linkage.

Remove the drive shaft cover (B) and clean debris
from the rotating screen.
6.
Clean the oil cooler (C) using a brush or com
-
pressed air to remove dust and debris.
7. Reinstall the carburetor access panel.
8. Reinstall the drive shaft cover.
9. Reinstall the left and right engine covers.
Servicing the Battery
DANGER
The battery produces a flammable and explosive
gas. The battery may explode.
• Wear eye protection and gloves.
• Do not smoke near the battery.
•
Keep arcs, sparks, and open flames away from
the battery.
• Do not allow direct metal contact across the bat-
tery posts.
•
Remove the negative battery cable first when
disconnecting the battery.
• Install the negative battery cable last when con-
necting the battery.
WARNING
Battery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid. It is poi-
sonous and can cause severe chemical burns.
1. Wear eye and skin protection.
2. If battery electrolyte is spilled on your skin or
clothing, change your clothing and wash the af-
fected skin immediately. Seek medical attention,
if necessary.
3. If battery electrolyte is splashed into your eyes,
flush immediately with water for 15-30 minutes
and seek immediate medical attention.
4. If battery electrolyte is swallowed, get medical
attention immediately. Drink large quantities
of water, followed by Milk of Magnesia, beaten
egg, or vegetable oil. DO NOT induce vomiting.
ATTENTION
Batteries contain poisonous and hazardous sub-
stances. Dispose of used batteries in accordance
with local laws.
