Troubleshooting
In rare cases, your multimedia centre may not function the way you expect it to. Before
calling the service department, please read the operating instructions thoroughly and
go through the following check list; it may be possible to quickly remedy an apparent
malfunction.

When connecting the MC 5400 to a mobile phone, it is important that you only use the
original data cable from the relevant mobile phone manufacturer.
Data cables from third party suppliers may cause the MC 5400 to malfunction.
Symptoms
Possible cause / remedy
System reacts noticeably slowly.
Incorrect data lead.
• Disconnect data lead from system. If the system now reacts normally:
Contact your VDO Dayton dealer for checking of the lead.
• Use only original telephone manufacturer’s data leads, as these
are approved for use in motor vehicles and, in contrast to leads
from third-party suppliers, fulfil the required specifications.
Problems in data connection.
No internet connection and/or fax
operation not possible.
Incorrect data lead.
• Contact your VDO Dayton dealer for checking of the lead.
Message “Server not found” when
sending an e-mail.
SMTP and/or POP3 settings incorrect / not set.
• Check the settings for POP3 and SMTP.
Information on setting POP3 and SMTP server addresses is
available from your e-mail provider.
No internet connection possible.
Internet access data not set or incorrectly set.
• Check the settings for internet access. Information on setting
internet access is available from your internet provider.
Not possible to play MP3 files.
No memory card with MP3 files in the PCMCIA slot of the MC 5400.
• Insert a memory card with MP3 files in the PCMCIA slot (with
suitable adapter).
