functions:

9.2. Chemical compensation
Large variations in chemical content may cause errors
in the total solids content measurement of the Valmet
TS. Compensation based on microwave attenuation
measurement can be applied to eliminate these errors.
The use of chemical compensation is explained in
the following sections.
Entering laboratory values
1.
First take a sample as instructed in section 7.1.
2.
Determine its total solids content and filtrate con-
ductivity at room temperature.
3.
Then go to the "Enter Lab" menu.
4.
Press "Edit/Save", and enter first the laboratory
result for the total solids content. Pressing "Enter"
scrolls the display down after the last line.
5.
Then select the chemical type with the up/down
keys, and enter sample conductivity using mS/cm
as the unit.

If the conductivity meter gives the result as mS/m,
divide the result by one hundred (e.g. 550 mS/m = 5.5
mS/cm).
If the conductivity meter gives the result as uS/cm,
divide the result by one thousand (e.g. 5500 uS/cm =
5.5 mS/cm). If the conductivity meter gives the result
as umho/in, divide the result by 2500 (e.g. 25 000
umho/in = 10 mS/cm).
Using the chemical compensation
After entering the laboratory values select "Special
functions" -› "Chemical comp." and the following display
will appear:
--------------------
Chem.comp: OFF
Comp. value= 0.00%
Chem = NaOH
Lab cond =3.4 mS/cm
--------------------
Press "Edit/Save", and the cursor will appear in the
field "Chem. comp". The text OFF indicates that
chemical compensation is not in use. Use the up/down
arrow keys to change the text to ON and press
"Edit/Save". The Valmet TS then begins to use the
chemical compensation.
The value "Comp. value" on the second line indicates
how much the chemical compensation subtracts from
the actual measurement result. The third and fourth
lines indicate the chemical and laboratory conductivity
values entered by the user.
