SERIES OR PARALLEL CONNECTION
In case of a multi-panel configuration, parallel connection will ensure an optimum production
especially in shaded areas.
In case of parallel coupling, the panel current adds up.
In case of series coupling, the total current equals to the lowest panel current.
Advantages / Disadvantages
Series
Parallel
Advantages
Simplified connection
No power decrease when panel in
the shade.
Disadvantages
Power decrease if a panel is in the shade
(tree, building, chimney, sail, ...)
Use of derivation connectors and longer cable

PANELS COMPATIBILITY
MAXIMUM VOLTAGE ACCEPTED BY THE CONTROLLER
There are 2 panel voltages: The operating voltage (Vmp) and the Stand-yb vltage (Voc).
To choose a MPPT charge controller, it is necessary to refer to the Stand-by voltage (Voc) of the panel,
that corresponds to the open circuit voltage.
In series, the Voc add up, whereas in parallel they do not.
Example : 100W panels – 12V monocristallin (= 100W / 21.3 Voc)
Adapted controller
In series:
+
+
= 300W and 63.9 Voc
UNIMPPT 100/30.24L
In parallel:
+
= 200W and 21.3 Voc
UNIMPPT 60/20.24L
Uniteck recommends a parallel connection for better electrical efficiency and to avoid losses due to shading.
