Intended use

• Taking blood pressure measurements on children requires
specialist knowledge. Consult your doctor if you want to
measure a child’s blood pressure. Under no circumstances
must the device be used on an infant.
This device is intended for adults for non-invasive self-measure-
ment of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure, determining the
pulse rate and calculating the pulse pressure.
The device determines the blood-pressure values simultaneous-
ly using two different measurement procedures, the Korotkoff
procedure and the oscillometric measurement procedure. As a
result, the measurement values determined are very reliable and
precise.
In the Korotkoff procedure, a highly sensitive microphone in the
cuff is used to record the sounds that arise during the blood pres-
sure measurement due to the turbulence of the blood in the ar-
tery. The stethoscope blood pressure measurement performed
by doctors also functions according to this principle.
The oscillometric measurement procedure that is customary
in fully automatic blood pressure measurement devices uses a
sensor to record the small fluctuations in pressure (oscillations)
inside the cuff that are caused by the expansion and contraction
of the arteries in the arm (heartbeat).
visomat
®
double comfort uses both procedures to determine the
measurement values and indicates the result on the display.
• During pregnancy and in cases of pre-eclampsia, the device
may only be used after consulting your doctor.
• Do not under any circumstances place the cuff over a criti-
cal area, e.g. a wound, aneurysm, etc. or on an arm with an
arteriovenous shunt. Risk of injury! Any supply via an intra-
vascular access point (infusion) or other medical monitoring
devices could possibly be interrupted.
• Do not use the device without first consulting your doctor
if you are having dialysis treatment or are taking anticoag-
ulants, platelet aggregation inhibitors or steroids. These cir-
cumstances may cause internal bleeding.
• The display of the pulse frequency is not suitable for checking
the frequency of cardiac pacemakers. Cardiac pacemakers
and blood pressure monitors do not influence each other in
terms of their mode of operation.
• The device is not an instrument for the diagnosis of atrial fi-
brillation. It shows only the possibility of the presence of such
a condition. If this display should appear, it is essential to dis-
cuss this with your doctor to receive an accurate diagnosis.
• The cuff must only be used on the upper arm and must never
be used on other limbs.
1. Important patient information
• The device is not suitable for use with electrosurgical devices.
• Do not use the device in explosive environments such as in the
vicinity of flammable anaesthetics or in an oxygen chamber.
