GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Model F960/Q-48 Designer QR-EC
Dry Horizontal Sidewall Sprinklers
(Ref. Figure A) are automatic sprin-
klers of the frangible bulb type. They
are intended for use in light hazard,
quick response extended coverage
(QR-EC) automatic sprinkler system
applications per NFPA 13.
They are designed for installation
along a wall and just beneath a smooth
and level ceiling. Horizontal sidewall
sprinklers are generally used in lieu of
pendent sprinklers because of aes-
thetic, building construction, or instal-
lation economy considerations.
Available in 135°F and 155°F tempera-
ture ratings, as well as in order lengths
of 1/2 inch increments from 2-1/2 to 48
inches, the F960/Q-48 is intended for
use in applications where the sprin-
klers and/or a portion of the connect-
ing piping may be exposed to freezing
temperatures (e.g. horizontal piping
extensions from a wet pipe system
through a wall to protect a freezer or
an unheated area of a building).
When the F960/Q-48 is in service,
water is prevented from entering the
assembly by the Plug and O-Ring Seal
in the Inlet of the Sprinkler. Upon expo-
sure to a temperature sufficient to op-
erate the Bulb, the Bulb shatters and
the Bulb Seat is released. The com-
pressed Spring is then able to expand
and push the Water Tube as well as the
Guide Tube outward. This action simul-
taneously pulls outward on the Yoke,
withdrawing the Plug and O-Ring Seal
from the Inlet and initiating water flow.
The Escutcheon Plate has been de-
signed to provide 1 inch of total hori-
zontal adjustment (plus or minus 1/2
inch), to assure proper field position-
