The Audience for this Protocol
This protocol is intended for lay persons who have no prior experience using air monitoring
instruments. Some experience with computers is beneficial, but not required. Users of this
protocol should have received a carrying case containing all the necessary equipment and
software. Contact Dr. Klepeis for more information.
Quick Summary of the Protocol
A TSI Sidepak aerosol monitor is placed in a home and used to measure airborne particles
(aerosol) continuously for a week or more. Simultaneous eye-witness records of smoking
behavior, tobacco smoke odor, monitor position, and household activities are made to supplement
the aerosol monitoring data.
