The default behavior if the NIC's switch chip is not configured:
If the packet enters the NIC with an 802.1Q tag it will use it to assign the internal QPRI (Queue
Priority).
If the packet does not have an 802.1Q tag the NID will use the diffserve priority to assign the QPRI.
If there is no layer 2 or layer 3 priority assigned to the frame the NIC can internally assign a priority
based on the ingress port. Internally, that priority will be used to assign the QPRI. If the NIC adds a
tag, the priority of the tag will be the priority assigned by the ingress port.
