The highly sophisticated RAV4 isn’t only
designed for driving pleasure. Many of its
intelligent features are also there to look
after you out on the road.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with
Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and
Brake Assist (BA)
ABS helps to stop wheels locking on slippery roads
while EBD optimises braking force between the front
and rear (as well as left and right) wheels so that you
can successfully negotiate obstacles as you bring the
car to a complete stop. Brake Assist is able to detect
emergency braking and, in cases where not enough
pressure has been applied to the brake pedal, will
add additional braking power.
More control when cornering
The Integrated Active Drive System links VSC with
Electric Power Steering (EPS) and Active Torque
Control 4WD, using the benefits of all three systems
to enhance safety. If you happen to over- or under-
steer when applying the brakes around a corner, for
example, the VSC will help with braking, while the
EPS will make the right steering action easier and the
wrong one more difficult, helping you get the vehicle
back on track more easily.
The system also intervenes when accelerating around
turns on slippery roads, combining traction control
(TRC) with VSC to regulate engine output and apply
brake force where necessary, while simultaneously
distributing the right ratio of front-to-rear torque to
keep the vehicle stable.
Enhanced straight-line braking and
acceleration
Where there’s a difference in road surface between
the left and right wheels, braking can cause the
vehicle to veer to one side. RAV4’s Integrated Active
Drive System immediately supplements the ABS by
providing additional steering assistance from the
EPS to compensate for any imbalance and keep the
vehicle on a straight course as it comes to a stop.
This pull to the left or right can also occur when
accelerating, which is why the system also enables
extra steering torque from the EPS to work in tandem
with TRC, correcting any imbalance and helping to
maintain the vehicle’s straight path.
Outstanding Stability
RAV4’s new suspension doesn’t only provide
unparalleled ride comfort, it’s been deliberately
engineered with safety in mind. Completely re-
designed from the shock absorbers to the coil
springs, the vehicle’s intricately refined suspension
offers stable ride handling and road holding.
Safety evolved
ABS with EBD
ABS works in tandem with
EBD to help prevent the
wheels locking and enabling
you to steer more effectively
around obstacles as you come
to a stop.
Vehicle Stability Control
(VSC)
In wet conditions or when
taking a corner too fast, VSC
acts to reduce side slippage of
tyres, helping you maintain
grip and giving you back
control.
Traction Control (TRC)
TRC uses braking and reduced
torque in situations where the
wheels lose grip on the road
or start spinning and restores
traction by re-distributing
the amount of power to each
wheel independently.
LED Rear Lights
LED rear lights respond
more quickly when you
press the brake pedal.
Allowing, at around 62 mph,
approximately six metres
extra braking distance
for the vehicle behind.
Integrated Active Drive
System
RAV4’s Integrated Active Drive
System actively monitors road
conditions, reacting quickly
to potential problems and
making necessary corrections
well in time.
