Connection to other equipment
3. Connecting an audio system
This connection allows you to hear the TV sound through external speakers connected to an audio amplifier.
To control the audio through the amplifier, turn on the TV and the amplifier, set the volume of both to a
moderate level, and turn off the TV’s built-in speakers (see ‘Turning off the built-in speakers’ on page 23).
Use a stereo RCA/Phono audio cable to connect the Variable Audio Output jacks to a spare input on your
hi-fi amplifier, for example Line-in or AUX (please consult your hi-fi instructions for details).
Notes:
Many TV broadcasts are transmitted with surround sound (e.g. Dolby Surround) as well as stereo. If you
connect the Variable Audio Output jacks to a suitable surround sound amplifier system, it will be able to
decode the surround information from the stereo signal output from the TV.
The sound adjustment (bass / treble / balance) controls (see page 22) only affect the sound through the
TV speakers - it does not affect the sound through the audio output jacks.

Connect the Video camera (or games console) to the TV unit using the appropriate RCA / Phono AV cables
(or S-Video if applicable). Select AV3-input mode (see page 11).
Notes:
If you have a camcorder with S-video, use an S-video cable instead of a standard video cable. Do not
connect both a standard video cable and an S-video cable at the same time, or the picture performance
will be unacceptable.
When you input the PAL-M signal to
(3) (AV3) input, select AV COLOUR setting to AUTO otherwise
the monochrome images will be displayed.
