WARNING
Incorrect battery cable routing could damage the
machine and cables, causing sparks. Sparks can
cause the battery gasses to explode, resulting in
personal injury.

Always disconnect the negative (black) battery
cable before disconnecting the positive (red)
cable.
•
Always connect the positive (red) battery cable
before connecting the negative (black) cable.
1.
Disengage the blade-control switch (PTO), move the
motion-control levers to the N
EUTRAL
-
LOCK
position,
and engage the parking brake.
2.
Shut off the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3.
Disconnect the negative battery cable (black) from the
negative (-) battery terminal (
4.
Slide the red terminal boot off the positive (red) battery
terminal, and remove the positive (+) battery cable

5.
Remove the rubber strap (

Remove the battery.

Installing the Battery
1.
Position the battery in the tray with the terminal posts
opposite from the hydraulic tank (
).
2.
Install the positive (red) battery cable to the positive
(+) battery terminal.
3.
Install the negative (black) battery cable and ground
wire to the negative (-) battery terminal.
4.
Secure the cables with 2 bolts, 2 washers, and 2 locknuts
(
).
5.
Slide the red terminal boot onto the positive (+) battery
terminal.
6.
Secure the battery with the rubber strap (
).
Charging the Battery
WARNING
Charging the battery produces gasses that can
explode.
Never smoke near the battery and keep sparks and
flames away from the battery.
Important:
Always keep the battery fully charged
(1.265 specific gravity). This is especially important to
prevent battery damage when the temperature is below
0°C (32°F).
1.
Charge battery for 10 to 15 minutes at 25 to 30 A or
for 30 minutes at 10 A.
2.
When the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger
from the electrical outlet, then disconnect the charger
leads from the battery posts (

Install the battery in the machine and connect the
battery cables; refer to
Installing the Battery (page 42)
.
Note:
Do not run the machine with the battery
disconnected; electrical damage may occur.
