8.9 Sharing media content with other devices
You can share media content with other media sharing devices across a
home network. If you have, for example, a media player that has media
sharing feature and is connected to the same home network through
a router or other network interface, you can play back on the digital
receiver the media content out of the media player, or vice versa.
Select the
Entertainment
>
Home Media
menu, then you should see a screen like the
left figure. The name,
[HomeMedia] Top-
field PVR
, specified at the
DMS Name
op-
tion is used as an identifier for other net-
worked devices. If you want to change the
Server name, select the Server name and
press the
OK
button.
In general, there are four methods you can share media content from
one device to another device as follows:
• Device A accesses and plays the media content out of device B.
• Device A commands device B to play B’s own media content.
• Device A commands device B to access and play the media con-
tent out of device A itself.
• Device A commands device B to access and play the media con-
tent out of device C.
Before going further, you had better desig-
nate some of the folders in the digital re-
ciever’s hard drive for sharing so that they
can be accessed and played by other net-
worked devices as well. Select the
Server
Share Setting
menu and set the folders you
want to share to
Sharing
. Other devices
will only access those folders you desig-
nate to be shared.
To play back media content out of other networked devices, take the
following steps:
1. Select the
Player
menu and you will see the
[HomeMedia] Top-
field PVR
listed or a renamed server name, then press the
OK
button.
