PLUMBING & BATH FEATURES
6. Allow the 50 ppm disinfecting solution to stand in the system at least four hours.
7. Drain the system and
fl
ush it with freshwater.
Th
e water system needs to be
fl
ushed with water
repeatedly, if necessary, until there is no chlorine taste or smell le
ft
in the system. To remove any exces-
sive chlorine taste or odor that might remain, prepare a solution of one quart of vinegar to
fi
ve gallons
of water. “Rock” the tank containing the solution by moving the vehicle forward and backward several
times to clean the tank; then drain that tank and re
fi
ll with clean water.
WATER FILTER (Optional)
WATER HEATER BYPASS SYSTEM
Th
is unit may be equipped with an optional water
fi
lter (Figure 13-8) which must be removed before
disinfecting the fresh-water system.
First remove the water
fi
lter and then replace cover to allow the sani-
tizing solution access to the faucets. As installed, the
fi
lter will remove
chlorine, dirt, and other matter.
Th
e
fi
lter will also eliminate most phe-
nol (or similar) odors and tastes while delivering sparkling, taste-free
water for drinking and cooking.
Th
e water
fi
lter is located in the sanitation compartment on the out-
side of the motorhome.
Th
e water
fi
lter is not guaranteed to remove
the tastes and odors of iron and sulfur. To remove these impurities, you
need to chlorinate the water. Replacement
fi
lters are available that will
fi
lter iron and sulfur. Ask your dealer or RV supply center about pur-
chasing an iron and sulfur
fi
lter.
If you are traveling in an area where the water has high iron and sulfur
content, then add one tablespoon of chlorine bleach to every 10 gallons of water in your tank—this will
precipitate the iron or sulfur so that the
fi
lter can remove those impurities.
If you are at a site where the unit is connected to a city water supply, you will not be able to chlorinate
the system because the water
fl
ows straight to your faucets and not through the freshwater tank.
Filters should be changed every 6-12 months depending on the quality and quantity of water that is
used in your motorhome.
Th
e water heater bypass valve (Figure 13-9) is located in
the outside utility compartment.
Th
is process is performed
when winterizing your motorhome. Using the bypass valve
will keep antifreeze out of the water heater when winteriz-
ing the motorhome.
Draining the water heater during winterizing is a
MUST
.
