Note that distance between FHBs refers to the ‘Clamping Distance’ and the Fiber Modulus is its Young’s Modulus
of Elasticity - typically 28 for SMF28. However for softer glass, 28 will be too high, and you should look up the
modulus of rigidity. A smaller number should also be used for photonic crystal fiber (PCF). The modulus of rigidity
of silica glass varies from 19 to 31 GPa.

9.5.4. Blade Service
Blade Service provides a window that allows the user to move the blade between its Service Position and its Home
Position. The list on the right gives quick access to the parameters needed to manage blade setup. Touch an item
in the list to edit (provided the user has sufficient Access Permissions).
When the blade is in its Service Position, the ‘Home’ button is displayed, when the blade is in the Home Position,
the ‘Service Position’ button is displayed.
Whenever the user physically advances the registration of the Cleave Blade (to use a new part of the diamond
blade), the index should also be incremented and the Cleave Counter reset to zero.

9.5.5. Insert Selector
The Insert Selection Tool provides the same functionality as the lookup tables provided in Chapter 13.1. Specifying
the Coating (jacket) and Fiber (cladding) diameter provides a list of possible FHB insert combinations in order of
preference (best choice at the top). The offset values are also given so the user can best match left and right inserts
when a complete set is not available.
