IN STAL LA TION

Lo ca tion

For best op er at ing char ac ter is tics and lon gest
unit life, take care in se lect ing an in stal la tion site.
Avoid lo ca tions ex posed to high hu mid ity, dust,
high am bi ent tem per a ture, or cor ro sive fumes.
Mois ture can con dense on elec tri cal com po -
nents, caus ing cor ro sion or short ing of cir cuits.
Dirt on com po nents helps re tain this mois ture
and also in creases wear on mov ing parts.

Ad e quate air cir cu la tion is needed at all times in
or der to as sure proper op er a tion. Pro vide a min i -
mum of 12 inches (305 mm) of free air space at
front, rear, and sides of the unit. Make sure that
the ven ti la tor open ings are not ob structed.

Grounding

The in ter nal frame of this weld ing ma chine is
grounded for per son nel safety. Where ground ing
is man da tory un der state or lo cal codes, it is the
re spon si bil ity of the user to com ply with all ap pli -
ca ble rules and reg u la tions. Where no state or lo -
cal codes ex ist, it is rec om mended that the
Na tional Elec tri cal Code be fol lowed.

Elec tri cal In put Re quire ments

Plug the in put cord into a prop erly grounded and
pro tected (fuse or cir cuit breaker) 115 V AC, 20
amp re cep ta cle.

CAU TION: Con sult name plate for
proper in put volt age and in put am per -
age. The method of in stal la tion, con duc -
tor size, and overcurrent pro tec tion
shall con form to the re quire ments of the
lo cal elec tri cal code. All in stal la tion wir -
ing and ma chine con nec tion shall be
done by a com pe tent elec tri cian.

The Na tional Elec tri cal Code (Ar ti cle 630B., 1984
Edi tion) pro vides stan dards for am per age han -

dling ca pa bil ity of sup ply con duc tors based on
the duty cy cle of the weld ing power source. This
unit has a 10% duty cy cle (1 min ute of ev ery 10
min utes can be used for weld ing); there fore the
cord sup plied with this unit com plies with these
stan dards. En sure that the build ing sup ply and
re cep ta cle com ply with NEC stan dards and any
ad di tional state and lo cal codes

NOTE: The sup ply wir ing for the weld ing
power source must be ca pa ble of han dling
a min i mum of 20 amps. The weld ing power
source must be the only load con nected to
the sup ply cir cuit. Poor unit per for mance or
fre quently open ing line fuses or cir cuit
break ers can re sult from an in ad e quate or
im proper sup ply.

NOTE: Use Ta ble 5-1 for se lec tion of the
min i mum wire size for ex ten sion cords.
