Z-Max Surveying System Operation and Applications Manual

SD Memory Card File Structure and File Naming Convention

While the receiver is recording data, data files are collected as part of a session. A
session may be 30 seconds long or 24 hours, but all the data collected during that
session are stored as a single session file in the root directory of the SD memory
card. New sessions are created by:

cycling the receiver power

initiating a 'NEW SESSION' in the SESSIONS submenu of the front panel

LED display

issuing the $PASHS,FIL,C command using text messages sent through a

serial port

running Session Programming

As previously discussed, all the data created during a single session are stored on the
SD memory card as a U-file. The U-file (session file) is a compressed file containing
all the data records recorded during the session. During the downloading process, the
U-files are decoded into the individual file types onto the PC for storage and
processing.

Both the session file and the created individual files follow a naming convention that
includes the file type, the site name, a session identifier, year, and the day of the year
(DOY). Figure 4.9 outlines the file naming convention. The single exception to this
convention is the almanac files. The almanac files are named ALMyy.ddd where yy is
the last two digits of the year and ddd is the day of the year.

The first letter is the file type ('U' for U-files, 'B' for B-files, etc)

The next 4 characters indicate the station location or site name. If the user

has not entered a site name, then these 4 characters are underscores
("____") unless a previous location name is still in memory. If the site name
