The serial port of the STS interacts with the PC so that the PC can transmit all commands to the STS. 
To prevent unauthorised access to the STS two levels of security measures are available: 

 

1) The user can enable or disable the RS232 serial port from the OPTIONS MENU. If the remote control is  
disabled (OFF), the STS will ignore commands sent through the serial port. 

 

2) A password is required to connect the PC to the STS (USER LOGIN). If the password sent to the STS is 
correct, LOGIN status will last for a period of 2 minutes. During this interval the RS232 serial port will be active 
and it will be possible to send control commands from the PC to the STS. When two minutes have lapsed, the 
serial port will be disabled and it will therefore be necessary to LOGIN again.
