Internal Inspection Checklist

Item

Inspect For

Repair A c tio n

C ircu it Boards

Loose, broken, or corroded solder connections.
Burned c irc u it boards. Burned, broken, or

cracked circu it-ru n plating.

Clean solder corrosion w ith an eraser and flush

w ith isopropyl alcohol. Resolder defective

connections. Determine cause o f burned items
and repair. Repair defective c irc u it runs.

Resistors

Burned, cracked, broken, o r blistered.

Replace defective resistors. Check fo r cause o f

burned com ponent and repair as necessary.

Solder Connections

Cold solder o r rosin joints.

Resolder jo in t and clean w ith isopropyl alcohol.

Capacitors

Damaged or leaking cases. Corroded solder on
leads or terminals.

Replace defective capacitors. Clean solder

connections and flush w ith isopropyl alcohol.

W iring and Cables

Loose plugs o r connectors. Burned, broken, or

frayed w iring.

F irm ly seat connectors. Repair or replace

defective wires or cables.

Chassis

Dents, deform ations, and damaged hardware.

Straighten, repair, o r replace defective hardware.

If any electrical com ponent is replaced, conduct a

Performance Check o f the affected c irc u it and o f other

closely related circuits (see Section 4). If repair or replace

ment w o rk is done on any o f the power supplies, conduct
a complete Performance Check and, if so indicated, an

instrum ent readjustment (see Section 5).

To prevent damage from electrical arcing

ensure

th a t c irc u it boards and com ponents are d ry before

applying p o w e r to the instrum ent.

C LE A N IN G . To clean the in te rio r, blow o ff dust w ith

d ry, low-pressure air (approxim ately 9 psi). Remove any

remaining  dust  w ith   a  soft  brush  or  a clo th   dampened  w ith
a  solution  o f  m ild   detergent  and  w ater.  A   c o tto n -tip p e d
applicator  is  useful  fo r  cleaning  in  narrow   spaces  and  on
c irc u it  boards.

If these methods do n o t remove all the dust or d irt,

the instrum ent may be spray washed using a solution

o f 5% m ild detergent and 95% w ater as fo llo w s:

Gain access to the parts to be cleaned (see "R em oval

and Replacement In s tru c tio n s ").
