(5) BATTERY MAINTENANCE

(E.S. MODELS)

A. After purchase, charge the batteries for 24
hours, using the battery charger provided or any
other appropriate type.
B. Disconnect the battery cable from the feed
cable at the end of each season.
C. After the Winter, recharge the battery for 24
hours.
D. Reconnect the battery cable to the cable on the
machine (after the Winter period in which it has not
been used).

N.B. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS SUPPLIED BY THE
MANUFACTURERS OF THE MACHINE AND THE
BATTERY.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR STARTING

NEVER START THE MOTOR IN A CLOSED OR
POORLY VENTILATED ENVIRONMENT
BECAUSE THE EXHAUST GAS CONTAINS
CARBON MONOXIDE, AN ODOURLESS, POI-
SONOUS GAS.

KEEP HANDS, FEET, HAIR AND CLOTHING
AWAY FROM ANY MOVING PARTS OF THE
MOTOR OR THE MACHINE.

CAUTION: THE TEMPERATURE OF THE HEAT
SHIELD AND SURROUNDING PARTS MAY
EXCEED 60º C. DO NOT TOUCH.

(1) SELF-WINDING STARTER

(MOTOR FITTED WITH
CARBURETTOR WITH PRIMER
SYSTEM): Fig. 3-1

A. Move the control level of the motor or the remo-
te control of the machine to RUN or LEPRE (Figs
6-5, 6-1) (see the instructions of the machine
manufacturer).
B. Press the fuel enrichment pump (PRIMER) on
the carburettor three (3) times (Fig. 3-1), waiting
two (2) seconds between one operation and the
next.
If the environmental temperature is 13ºC or lower,
press five (5) times.

N.B.: DO NOT USE THE PRIMER TO RESTART THE
MOTOR THAT IS STILL HOT AFTER A BRIEF STOP.

C. Grasp the handle of the starter (Fig. 4-5) and
slowly pull the cord until there is a slight resistan-
ce. Let the cord rewind slowly, then pull again with
a rapid stroke. Slowly release the cord towards the
starter.

N.B. If the motor does not start after the third pull,
repeat instructions B and C.

(2) SELF-WINDING STARTER

(MOTOR FITTED WITH
CARBURETTOR WITH CHOKE
SYSTEM): Fig 3-3)

A. Move the choke lever (see Fig. 3-3) to the
“CHOKE” position.

N.B.: If restarting a motor still hot after a brief stop,
or starting in environments with a medium-high
temperature, DO NOT USE THE CHOKE.

B. Move the motor control lever or the remote con-
trol of the machine to the RUN or LEPRE position
(see the instructions of the machine manufacturer)
(Figs. 6-5, 6-1).

C. Grasp the handle of the starter (Fig. 4-5) and
slowly pull the cord until there is a slight resistan-
ce. Let the cord rewind slowly, then pull again with
a rapid stroke. Slowly release the cord towards the
starter.

D. When the motor starts, move the CHOKE lever
to the “1/2 CHOKE” position until the motor is run-
ning smoothly, and then to the “NO CHOKE” posi-
tion.
If the outside temperature is between 0ºC and
10ºC or if the motor oscillates, return the CHOKE
lever to the 1/2 CHOKE position until the motor is
running smoothly, and then back to the “NO
CHOKE” position.

N.B. IF THE MOTOR DOES NOT START AFTER
THREE (3) PULLS, MOVE THE CHOKE LEVER TO
THE “NO CHOKE” POSITION AND PULL THE STAR-
TER CORD AGAIN.

N.B. IF THE MOTOR STARTS BUT DOES NOT KEEP
TURNING, MOVE THE CONTROL LEVER TO THE
“CHOKE” POSITION AND REPEAT INSTRUCTIONS
B, C AND D, UNTIL THE MOTOR STARTS.

(3) ELECTRIC STARTER (MOTOR FITTED

WITH CARBURETTOR WITH CHOKE
SYSTEM).

A. Move the CHOKE lever (see Fig. 3-3) to the
CHOKE position.

N.B. if restarting a motor still hot after a brief stop,
DO NOT USE THE CHOKE.

B. Move the motor control lever or the machine
remote control to the RUN or LEPRE position (see
the instructions of the machine manufacturer)
(Figs. 6-5, 6-1).

C. Turn the starter key or activate the starter
system as indicated in the machine manufacturer’s
instructions to start the motor.

D. When the motor starts, release the starter key
or disconnect the starter system as indicated by
the machine manufacturer. Then move the CHOKE
lever to the “1/2 CHOKE” position until the motor
is running smoothly, and then to the “NO CHOKE”
position.
If the outside temperature is between 0°C and
10°C or if the motor oscillates, return the CHOKE
lever to the 1/2 CHOKE position until the motor is
running smoothly, and then back to the “NO
CHOKE” position.

N.B. If the motor starts but does not keep turning,
move the CHOKE lever to the “NO CHOKE” position
and try again until the motor starts.

N.B. If the motor starts but does not keep turning,
move the CHOKE lever to the “CHOKE” position
and repeat instructions B, C and D, until the motor
starts.

N.B. If the motor will not start, do not insist for more
than five (5) seconds at each attempt.
