5.5 Software settings
There are two software programs that can be used for local
set-up and control of DBx series amplifiers and nodes. The
Basic LoCon Laptop (BLL) is available for Windows-based
platforms and the Basic LoCon Android (BLA) software
is available for use on Android-based cellphones and in
addition, the T-Box can be used to connect to the amplifiers
and nodes and provides a similar user interface. When
opening the BLL or BLA software the connected node will
automatically be shown on the screen as a block diagram.
The upstream section contains:
1. Lasers installed
2. Optical wavelengths
3. Output power levels
Attenuators are used to reduce the RF level for the individual
ports to a satisfactory level to achieve the optimum OMI.
This can be done by changing the values of the elements
in the block diagram, or by using the menu on the right side
panel in the Graphical User Interface (GUI). The IDS switches
are available to use when ingress occurs and you need to
troubleshoot to find the affected network branch.
The downstream module section shows the optical received
power. The attenuators can control the RF gain from the node.
The equalizers should be set according to the cable type
and length, leaving the node at the appropriate tilt to meet
the requirements of the next downstream section according
to the user’s specific application. The RF end stage is
controllable and can be set to high or low power mode. When
maximum output power is not required it can be configured to
low power, saving two watts power consumption.
