SECTION 3

Servicing the Differential

At this point, we are assuming that the complete drive assembly and differential has
been removed from the vehicle and has been properly placed in a safe work area.

To service the differential use the following procedure:

1.

Drain the oil from the differential into the appropriate receptacle.

2.

Remove the axle shafts from the differential.

3.

Remove the cover plate from the differential and let the remaining

oil drain from the housing.

NOTE: Do not damage the housing sealing surface or deform
the cover plate.

4.

Dispose of the old oil properly.

5.

Remove the bearing cap screws and bearing caps.

NOTE: Bearing caps are marked for identification during
reassembly. Make sure they are put back in their original
position.
