MAINTENANCE
Proper servicing and adjustments are the key to the long life of any machine. With careful and
systematic inspection, you can avoid costly maintenance, time and repair.
WARNING! Disengage PTO, lower the appliance completely to the ground, turn off tractor
engine and remove the ignition key before performing maintenance.
Daily maintenance
1. Check the tightness of bolts and nuts. Tighten and replace if necessary.
2. Check the oil level in the gearbox and side chain box, and add oil if necessary.
3. Check the lubrication points, and add grease if necessary.
4. Check the blades to see if they are in good working order and properly attached. Replace
the blades and tighten the bolts if necessary.
5. Check the tension of the chain, and adjust if necessary.
Maintenance at the end of the season
1. Replace the lubricating oil.
2. Check the universal joint cross. If it is badly worn, replace it.
3. Check the bearings in both ends of the blade shaft to see if water enters through defective
oil seals. Clean the appliance, replace the oil seals and add enough grease.
4. Check all bearings. Adjust or replace if necessary.
5. Check the helical bevel gears. Adjust as needed.
Yearly maintenance
1. Remove all dust and dirt from the tiller.
2. Drain out gear oil and disassemble the tiller to check the condition. If bearings are badly
worn or damaged, replace them. Clean all parts before assembly. Add correct amount of
oil to the gearbox.
3. Disassemble and clean the bearings and their seats on the blade shaft. Replace the oil
seals and lubricate as needed.
4. Disassemble and clean the universal joint cross assembly. Clean the roller pins of the uni-
versal joint, and replace if necessary.
5. Check fasteners and cotter pins. If they are rusty, damaged or badly worn, they must be
replaced.
6. Check the blades for damages and wear and tear, and replace if necessary. Also check if
some blades are missing, and replace missing blades with new ones.
7. Check the blade holder, and repair or replace if necessary.
8. Check the cover and trailing bar. Repair if necessary.
Checking the gearbox oil level
1. The tiller should be on level ground when the gearbox oil level is checked. Check oil level in
gearbox by removing the plug.
2. Oil should be at the same level as the bottom of the plug hole.
3. Add oil (API GL-5 80W-90) if necessary into the top fill hole until excess oil overflows from
the plug hole.
